Mictlantecuhtli was formed in mid 1998 in Los Angeles by a group of eager spiritual musicians. Mictlantecuhtli’s aim has been to create music that is purely expressionistic and displays the realism of the ancient Mexica ways and those of modern life.

    Mictlantecuhtli considers themselves to be metal. A specific category is extremely difficult to place them under because of how Mictlantecuhtli expresses themselves in a very unique way. They are not afraid to incorporate the use of flutes, seashells, and war drums in their music, as well as the burning of incense and sage in their live performances. This is purely expressional and representative of the spiritual aspects of Mictlantecuhtli.

    As many find themselves arguing over what type of metal Mictlantecuhtli is, Mictlantecuhtli has become one of the most revered acts in the Southern California Metal Scene. Mictlantecuhtli has been the opening act for Monstrosity, the legendary Immortal, and Mexican Death Metal legends Transmetal. Quickly and steadily gaining popularity in Southern California, Mictlantecuhtli was featured on Quadrivium Records’s 2000 promotional CD that was distributed worldwide and have been invited to appear in other compilations.

    The brothers Cuauhtemoc, Cuitlahuac, Tlacaelel, Tlaloc, and Itzcoatl venture into the future with the aspiration to give the world a whole new set of eyes to see through.
